Ahafo Ano South District is at the north-western part of the Ashanti Region, bounded to the north by Brong Ahafo Region, to the south by Atwima District, to the west by Ahafo Ano District and to the east by the Offinso District. The district lies 32 kilometres northwest of Kumasi on the Kumasi - Sunyani road. The district capital is Mankranso. The District covers a total Surface area of about 1241km, representing 5.8% of the region’s total Surface area. With the above description of location, the district can be said to fall within the forest belt of Ghana. The District Capital, Mankranso, is located 34km North-West of Kumasi on the Kumasi-Sunyani Highway.

Generally, the various types of soils in the district are fertile. The district is endowed with abundant arable land which is favourable for the cultivation of a wide range of crops including cocoa, citrus, oil palm, plantain, cassava, maize, cocoyam and vegetables.
